AlphaSim has released the LUN Ekranoplan for Flight Simulator X and Flight Simulator 9. This is one odd looking aircraft!

LUN_5 New addition to the Soviet section – the LUN Ekranoplan! The awesome ‘Caspian Sea Monster’ has arrived in FS2004 and FSX ! The second-biggest aircraft ever built, the 8-engined sea skimmer could have been a deadly weapon of war with it’s 6 ‘Sunburn’ anti-ship missiles and ability to travel at high speed under the radar of patrol aircraft. The AlphaSim model offers true sea-skimming ability and a easy controllability. The dazzling spray and smoke fx with the suitably loud soundset ensure a superb spectacle when the ‘Dove’ gets under way. The superb panel and v-c provide the perfect environment for your virtual crew, authentic Russian gauges are used throughout. Four landing lights in the nose ensure your aquatic adventures can continue after dark and FS9 users have the benefit of v-c rain fx for those bad weather patrols. To top it all, pressing the tailhook key opens up the forward missile tubes to display a nice pair of ‘Sunburn’ ASMs.

For FS2004/FSX only. Filesize 17MB. Price approx. $26USD, £12.50, 18.70EUR, 29 AUD.

I read about these recently on another site, not so much an aircraft more an exteremly fast flying boat with a minmal cruise height sufficient to make it amphibious and land tanks and troops if neccesary.

I have to say, AlphaSim sure produces some interesting projects. Just a trip to their website to scope’em all out is a blast. Great attention to detail on all of their aircraft!!

They do come out with some corkers, don’t they? I’d like to know how many developers they have, as they seem to pop out about one a week!

With a top speed of 250 MPH I think it would have come and gone before any boat could undertake evasive manouvers :D

Just found this 10 minute video on the Ekranoplan, it’s in Russian but you get to see the different configurations in action, amphibeous aspect with troops / armour disembarking, missiles being launched etc. Bit sad that they’re all rotting away though;

That’s awesome! Nice find, PieEater. I didn’t realise it actually “flew”. It’s always a shame seeing old aircraft decomposing :(

I will have to watch the clip later as i am meant to be working lol, but cant wait to see it. I thought it was a proto type too.

I still think we should preserve all piece’s of History.

I agree, Jason. It’s a crime to let them rot.
