Cachya Software has released version 2 of its head tracking application that uses your existing video source as the input device. I must admit, I didn’t even know there had been a version 1.
I haven’t given it a try, but it appears to work with any video source (e.g. a webcam). They have provided a template on the site for a device to attach to a hat for the software to track.
This looks, in principle, to offer similar functionality to the Track IR device (see review). I’d be interested to hear from anyone who gives it a go.
Normally priced at $24.95, you can get it now for the introductory price of $14.99. There is a limited demo and videos available from the site.

From the sites forum it does seem that if you have enough perseverence to get the setup right for your particular hardware and controllers this can work. The introductary price almost begs a purchase, sadly I’m not going to have the time to check this out but if anyone does please report back. Is it too good to be true or is TrackIR redundant?

It does seem almost too good to be true, doesn’t it? I’d love to hear from some who’s given it a try. The beauty of the Track IR is that it’s so easy to set up. Install the software, press one button and you’re away.

Dear all, I,ve tried and buyed cachya, it works like a charm even better than track ir, it’s a bit complicated and frustating to set them well, but once you have done it work perfectly, used in conjuction with the freeware TIR4FUN, you can use every game with advanced TRackIR facilities, really and not only with flight sim but also with fps of every kind.
Of course if you look at their website, there aren’t so much interesting explanation about the use of it, but if you read carefully the manual, english and German version are avalaible, and you set everything you have a perfect trackir on very ridicolous budget, right now it cost only 14,99$ and it value every cents of it….
the marker has to be print on white paper is so simple to build that even a child could do that…..
and now as native support for FSX, just launch cachya app before FSX and you get 6dof…..
