Just Flight has made available an update to the Commercial Level Simulations DC-10 Collection, adding an Inertial Navigation System. You can read my review of the DC-10 collection here.
This is a terrific free upgrade, which also adds yet another variant to the already impressive package. I’m pleased to see the developers aren’t just moving on to pastures new now that the DC-10’s been released:
Our DC-10 Collection add-on for FSX and FS2004 has been a fixture in our Top Ten since its release and has proved popular with both reviewers and buyers alike.
Now the developers, Commercial Level Simulations, have released a FREE upgrade for the package in the shape of an INS (Inertial Navigation System) - an avionics feature which normally only graces professional simulations.
Inertial Navigation Systems were the precursors of modern flight management computers and are fitted to many classic airliners, including the DC-10, 747 and L-1011 Tristar. Using laser gyros, accelerometers and microprocessors, the INS accurately positions the aircraft anywhere in the world and allows for flight planning and guidance without recourse to radio or satellite communications.
If that all sounds rather complicated, you’ll be glad to hear that the INS upgrade includes an 80-page PDF manual explaining the features and operation of this excellent upgrade.
There are two separate files - one for FS2004 (130Mb) and one for FSX (135Mb) - and you can download them both here.
The INS will work in both the DVD-ROM and Download DC-10 Collection packages.
This INS upgrade will also add a bonus DC-10 variant to the DC-10 Collection package - a DC-10-40b with a locked centre gear in Japan Airlines colours.
If you are not already a convert to the delights of the DC-10, you can buy it on both DVD and as a 302Mb Download for £24.99/€37.95/$42.99 - see the product pages for full details and screenshots.
Please note - if you bought your DC-10 Collection from Commercial Level Simulations, prior to the Just Flight release, please get this INS upgrade from the CLS website, as the patches for our own Just Flight expansions are NOT compatible with the original CLS release.
