OnCourse Software have released a “ProFlight 2000 emulator” that can be used with Flight Simulator X or Flight Simulator 9/2004. This is an interesting blast from the past and it’ll be interesting to see how the flight sim community takes to it. Here’s their press release:
“ProFlight 2000 Lives Again! Yes that’s right! Thanks to another first from OnCourse Software the opening of their newly updated website coincides with the announcement of their new release PFE (ProFlight 2000 Emulator). This amazing program will allow you to use ProFlight 2000 with FS9 and FSX!
Following 9 months of development and testing PFE should be released within the next couple of weeks. Initially PFE will be available for download only. There will be two editions, standard and deluxe. The standard edition will include the PFE application only and you will need a copy of your original ProFlight 2000 CD to use it. The PFE Deluxe edition will include both PFE and ProFlight 2000 (under license from the original publisher/developers) for those users who are unable to locate their old copy of the program or maybe never even owned one.
Within the next couple of months we plan to make the Deluxe version available as a boxed CD package.
You can checkout all the details (including screenshots) about PFE by following the link from our new website at www.oncourse-software.co.uk Here are a few of the additional features PFE adds to your ProFlight
experience:-
- PFE does not produce FS Adventures. It is a standalone program written in Visual Basic 6 and VB.NET
- PFE provides an all new runways database using data from FS9 or FSX
- Supports multiple flight planners (including FS9 and FSX when using the PFE flight plan converter)
- Active AI detection (both air and ground traffic) during takeoff and approach
- Transition levels can change dependant on your geographic location
- Configurable Transition Altitudes for each of the 26 ProFlight geographic regions
- Altimeter calls can also be made in Millibars as 1013 rather than 29.92
- Use ProFlight’s initial departure vectoring or choose to fly published departures (SID/DP)
- Considerable attention has been given to approach vectoring to provide smooth, realistic approaches to most airports.
- SID (DP) and STAR support
- Departure procedures (SIDs/DPs) are configurable and can be named which is then read out by ATC
- Add departure procedures (SIDs/DPs) to specific airports at runway level if required
- Let ProFlight handle all approach vectoring or choose to fly a published approach (STAR) at anytime.
- Arrival procedures (STARs) are configurable and can be named which is then read out by ATC
- Add arrival procedures to specific airports at runway level if required
- Add missed approach altitudes to specific airports at runway level if required
- Change your assigned departure runway if you wish
- Step climbs and step descents
- Configurable en-route and arrival holds
- Ability to request higher and lower altitudes
- Ability to request visual approach
- Ability to request a different arrival runway
- Active runways (departure and arrival) determined either by AI (if in use) or wind direction
- Departure runway length taken into consideration
- Arrival runway length and ILS equipment taken into consideration
- ATC handles missed approaches and vectors you back into the pattern
- Supports controlled, uncontrolled or partially controlled airports/fields
- Emergencies supported with vectors back to your departure airport or the nearest airport (your choice)
- Configurable Airway Deviation reminders
- Configurable AI detection during takeoff
- Configurable Hotkey assignments
- Automatic updates feature”

Wow! Check this one out. Nice new website, and completely re-written software for FS9 or FSX. Looks like a nice interface with tons of options. It’s always nice to see a program like this back up again. And it’s one of those programs that is just a little different from the standard fare to make it interesting. Take a trip to their site to check out all the screenshots and features, You just might end up making a new purchase!
