Following on from our earlier post, VATSIM has advised the flight sim community of the impending first test of the potential partnership between VATSIM and MITRE:
You may have seen a recent post in the forums where VATSIM announced a potential partnership with
MITRE(http://www.mitrecaasd.org/international/, a not-for-profit research, development and consulting firm that deals with airspace issues for many countries around the world. MITRE sees the potential in working with VATSIM to leverage our many strengths, primarily our ability to stand up a significant number of skilled pilots to participate in their airspace research experiments.
To explore this potential partnership, VATSIM and MITRE will be hosting a fly-in event within the Chicago ARTCC on Saturday, January 5th, 2008. This first event is a test for MITRE to learn how VATSIM events work, and for VATSIM to explore ways to deliver the results MITRE needs, by providing pilots that are comfortable flying a provided route and can handle their aircraft skillfully while accurately following ATC instructions.
Included is a link to the MITRE/VATSIM event sign-up page, created specifically for this initial trial event:

To participate as a pilot, you may register with your VATSIM ID and a password of your choosing, then answer a few questions for MITRE’s stats. After registering, proceed to the routes page and select a route to fly. Be sure to practice the route to ensure you can fly it accurately! If you have trouble flying the event, such as if your FMS doesn’t have all the listed fixes, then please reserve a different route.
