Google Earth Flight Simulator

by mark.avey on September 6, 2007

I’m back from my much-needed holiday. We all had a fantastic time and I’ve nicely recharged my batteries :)

As you can probably imagine, there’s a lot of catching up to do. I’m busy going through my inbox and will get back up to speed soon.

However, one thing did jump out of my inbox and that’s the news that the new version of Google Earth (version 4.2) has a flight simulator built into it! All you need to do is start Google Earth, and then hit Ctrl-Alt-A (although oddly I needed to use Ctrl-Windows Key-A) to bring up the Flight Simulator options. You can choose between an F16 or an SR22, pick your starting point (from a limited list or your current location) and enable your joystick if you have one and you’re away! It’s really neat. Is it the start of something big coming along in the future?

Check the Google Earth User Guide for a full list of key commands.
