Phil Taylor explains "The Blurries"

by mark.avey on June 15, 2007

Phil Taylor has produced an excellent article regarding “The Blurries” on his blog. (If you don’t subscribe to his blog, you really should - there is a wealth of terrific detail, all “from the horses mouth”, so to speak :) )

There’s a lot of discussion on popular community forums about phenomena in Flight Sim referred to generically as “the blurries”. The term is used to mean  a number of different things, so I thought I’d dig into this area a little bit. I wanted to define the different types of “blurries” that people are reporting to try to establish a common language, and then dig into one particular type and try to give users an idea of exactly what’s going on.

41 pages, and nearly twice that many images later …

Interesting stuff. I would like to see more content like this on the site relating to performance, etc.. Seems I am always tinkering around trying to get the ‘best’ from FSX!

Me too :) It’s always interesting to hear the “behind the scenes” stuff. I’ll have a look out for some more of the technical articles to post on the site.

Bottom line seems to be that you’ll never be able to totally get rid of that type of blurrie as it’s the way they’ve built FSX.

As far as tweaking FSX goes my own personal opinion is that you can only increase performance in one area by decreasing performance in another and MS have probably spent a lot more cumaltive time getting the balance right in terms of the configuration files than I’ll have the time and effort to spend. Obviously everyone will have their own preferences when it comes down to how much performance their willing to loose in order to have the sliders over to the right, and that’s alos going to depend on the hardware in question.

I’m inclined to agree, PieEater. You never get anything for nothing in this game!

I have to stop myself tweaking sometimes, as I can find that’s ALL I’m doing and not spending any time simming :)
