The site move and upgrade is now almost complete. If you notice anything odd on the site or the forum, please let me know.

Hi folks and thanks for bearing with me during the site move. Wordpress decided to release a new version of the application I use to maintain this site over the weekend, too, so I took the opportunity to upgrade during the move.

Hopefully things will start to settle down now. I’ve still got an issue with the Forum which I’m working on. Don’t worry, I have backups of everything, so it’ll only be a matter of time before it’s back

This weekend, I’ll be moving FlightSimX to it’s new host. There’s nothing you need to do, everything will be where you expect it to be when it’s all done.

From past experience of moving hosts, you can expect the site to be a little erratic for 24 to 48 hours, but it’s not normally anywhere near that long.

Over the past week, there’s been no less than 14 hours of downtime and that’s simply unacceptable. I apologise if the site’s been down when you’ve come to get your daily dose of Flight Sim news. This move should put all of those problems behind us and allow the site to grow even further.

I’ll post again when everything’s complete.

Update: 29th March - the site has now moved to the new host. It’ll probably be a few hours before it settles down completely.

It’s not been the best week for the FlightSimX web site.

Earlier in the week, we must’ve been popular, as someone decided we worth hacking! And last night, our good friends at Dreamhost brought the site down for around 8 hours.

A while back I started moving my other sites to Media Temple. I’ve got 2 left to move, and FlightSimX is one of them. Ironically, I was holding off moving FlightSimX to the new host until after Easter, as holiday time is traditionally busy on the site. I’ll still hold on until after the break and hope that Dreamhost can pull their finger out and keep it together, but I will be moving some time next week. There may be a little down time as the DNS servers crank up to speed and start pointing to the new host.

I’ll let you know exactly when I intend to start the move.

As you’ve probably noticed, I’m always experimenting with different kinds of advertising on the site.

I’ve been running one for a while now that seems to work pretty well for both the advertiser (you) and the publisher (me)

You may have noticed in the left sidebar there are a couple of image ads, underneath which you’ll see "Your ad here, right now: $0.30" (that being the current bid as I write this). The idea is simple. You upload a 125×125 banner to the Project Wonderful web site and bid on the advertising spot. As you can see, the cost is ludicrously low at the moment, so if you want to advertise on the site for less than a dollar a day, now’s the time to do it.

The cost is per day, not per click. So, you’re looking at getting around 4,000 impressions per day at the moment for only $0.30!
