Austin Meyer of X-Plane fame has released a free application for Windows and Mac users to help you calculate a number of flight related data:
Altitude-Optimizer 9.00 is here, Mac and Windows!
This is a free program to let you enter the climb rates, fuel-flows, and speeds for your airplane, then enter the winds and your destination. Once you have entered that stuff, this program, will tell you what altitude you should fly, giving you the time and fuel burns to get there. You can use it for X-Plane, but I designed it to be used for real flights. I used to use this to scoot around in my Lancair before it got smushed by the hangar.
If you fly, then GET THIS! IT IS REALLY COOL! (and free)
You just have to drop it into your X-Plane folder to run it… it needs X-Plane 9 resources!
I’ve not tried it with the demo of X-Plane, so I’m not sure if it needs the full version yet.
