AlphaSim patches T-6 Texan / Harvard

by mark.avey on February 24, 2008

AlphaSim has released a compatibility patch for their T-6 Texan / Harvard:

New FSX SP2/Acceleration compatibility for the T-6 Texan / Harvard ! This new version of our ever-popular model package now brings you right up to date with bump-mapping, self-shadowing (SP2 v-c shadowing included) and reflection bloom effect. If you have the original FSX (FS9 portover) version, the update will convert your FSX T-6 to the new standard. If you are buying it for the first time, there is a standalone FSX version now. Will work with both SP1 and SP2/Acceleration installations.

What a rip off from Alphasim. When I bought my copy of the T6 for FSX from them for $35.00US…I thought I was getting a version for FSX…not a ported over half-assed version from FS9. Now they come out with a full FSX version, that I should have gotten in the first place and they want to charge another $20.00 for that.

I feel I have been HAD…..again.

Have you emailed them? If so, I’d be interested in their response…

Yes I have…as a matter of fact.

I will let you know their response.

I got a reply from Alphasim.

Basically they said it takes a lot of work to program a plane to full FSX compatability. They also mentioned that other companies charge a lot more than they do for upgrades.

I agree with them on one level….that it does take a lot of work to do this and I believe that a company should be fairly compensated for their efforts.

My complaint was that the advertised the original version to be an FSX version, when it really wasn’t. Then they come out with the FSX version and charge for it again. I have to pay for the FSX version twice to get what I should have gotten in the first place.

Oh Well….I will send my money in and get the upgrade……what choice do I have.

Hi Frank. Thanks for the update. It’s an interesting subject and something I’ll be covering in an upcoming post.
