AlphaSim releases MH-53J Pavelow III

by mark.avey on June 25, 2007

MH-53J_2 AlphaSim are popping them out with startling regularity at the moment! Their latest release is the MH-53J Pavelow III helicopter for Flight Simulator X and Flight Simulator 9/2004. As is the norm for AlphaSim now, there is also a video available.

New addition to the Helicopters section - the MH-53J Pavelow III ! This, the Spec Ops variant of the mighty CH-53 Super Stallion, is truly both beauty and beast. From the blocky sensor-packed nose to the ungainly tail it is the muscleman of the helicopter world, yet there is a powerful grace in its gentle movements. The new AlphaSim Pavelow III sets the benchmark for FS helicopter detail both inside and out.

Four amazing texture sets present the MH-53J in gray lo-vis, Euro-camo, desert camo and an incredible IFOR Winter scheme, all repaints by the esteemed Pierre Lheureux. The external model detailing sets new standards and does so without sacrificing FPS, animations include the rear ramp, winchman’s hatch, cockpit windows, extending refuel probe, togglable pilots, engine intake flaps and rotor discs which move according to joystick input.

The interior was constructed using the MH-53 operation manual for reference - all text descriptions and pretty much every switch & knob were replicated. The all-xml gauges include a moving map display and extend to both sides of the amazing cockpit. Even the custom soundset and flight dynamics have been given the thumbs-up from a real MH-53 crew member and can therefore be relied upon to provide the best ever ‘Pavelow experience’. The FSX model is of course full-spec - self-shadowing, bump maps and glass bloom all present.

I’m not into helicopters, but the video, pics, and specs of the MH-53J are nothing short of amazing! I have their Texan and can vouch for the quality and work they put into their aircraft. The MH-53J, tho, is over the top. Makes me want to learn to fly helis! You know what they say, ‘variety is the spice of life’.

Every now and then I’ll have a go at flying a helicopter in the sims. I actually find them to be really good fun (and great for site-seeing), but I just can’t seem to nail down good landings.

As you say, Ken, the quality of this particular model does look superb.

Yeah Mark, taking off seems to be no problem, and I can fly one reasonably well, but oh those landings! ( Or should I say semi-controlled crashes)!! I once read where controlling a heli is akin to balancing a marble on a beachball. Seems like a good analogy! Still if I could fly one the MH-53J would most certainly be in my collection. And the Apache is no slouch either. It just happens to be my favorite whirlybird.
