Creating bump maps for FSX

Of particular interest to Flight Simulator X aircraft designers is a terrific article over on the Dave Nunez Blog explaining how to use the Gimp (a free image editor) to create bump maps. As Dave explains:

Bump mapping is a great way to increase the visual complexity of your model without actually increasing the number of polygons or drawcalls.

It’s a very detailed article, complete with extensive screenshots describing the process and I’d rate it as a “must read” for developers.
