Flight Simulator X Service Pack 2 released
The Microsoft Download Centre is reporting - and has available for download - Service Pack 2 for Flight Simulator X.
I can see no mention of this on FSInsider, or any other sim site, which I find a little odd. I’m downloading the 166 Mb MB file now.
There are very few details on the site, this being the Overview:
Flight Simulator X Service Pack 2 addresses these post-release customer concerns:
- Multiplayer compatibility
- DirectX® 10 preview
Update: FSInsider now has some more details about this update. Basically, it’s what you get with Acceleration. Here’s the details:
IMPORTANT: If you have already installed Flight Simulator X: Acceleration expansion pack, do not install Service Pack 2.
IMPORTANT: You must install Service Pack 1 before installing Service Pack 2.

Hi Mark,
FSInsider is always a little behind, it’ll show up there eventually.
Meantime, here’s some thoughts on SP2:

I’m surprised you didn’t treat yourself to Acceleration!
Hi Ed. I just realised that this SP is the same as that which you get in Acceleration. I’m getting confused with all the SP versions and releases - it’s my age

Put the pipe away ol’ boy. Blame Microsofts marketing dept.
Ah good, I thought it was just me
I’m expecting Service Pack 3 beta 7 version 994 subversion 3221 any time now!
Note also, Mark that SP2 is not the same as Acceleration in terms of features: Acceleration adds several new aircraft and many missions.
does anyone know if there will be a service pack 3, and when it’ll be released.
…i know SP2 has just came out, but i cant wait to see what updates Microsoft will be publisihing for FSX!!!
Wouldn’t surprise me. There’s still plenty of issues that need resolving!
Service packs fix things, expansion packs add things. With SP2 and DX10 Preview, there’s still graphical glitches. They may however be resolved when hardware vendors update their drivers. I’d be surprised if anything comes out for FSX in a long while.
I guess we’ll wait and see.
I agree it’ll be some time, Ed, if at all. It’s an interesting situation. There are still a LOT of people using FS9 and I suspect a great number of those people won’t ever “upgrade” to FSX. Also, look at how few add-ons have been released in relation to the same time period for FS9.
At least with FS9, a year after release the available hardware was around to be able to run the sim pretty much flat out, yet this isn’t the case, by a long shot, with FSX. I myself do find myself spending more and more time on FS9 and, more recently, X-Plane.
It’ll be interesting to see how things go over the next few months. My guess is that we still won’t see a tremendous number of add-ons for FSX and that the FS9 add-on market will continue to grow.

I rushed out like many and traded fs9 in for fsx. Mistake one, i have since been back and bought fs9 as their seems to be more add ons, also my new pc play fs9 with every setting on almost max which is cool.
I agree with mark i cant see many add ons coming out for fsx at the same rate as fs9.
… there will be no further updates to FSX. SP2 is it. Next is FS11.
Jon
anybody please, is there any evidence or facts that there “definatley” won’t be any other updates, expansions from Microsoft….
There’s been no official announcement but, given that they’ve released twice as many patches for FSX than they have for any other version, I guess it’s safe to say there won’t be too many, if any, more.
Hello, i got the spanish version of FSX and Acceleration expansion says it wont install in non-english versions, i havent installed any service pack yet. Am i totally screwed and need to buy a spanish version of acceleration? or is there anything that can fix this?
Thanks in advance.
You should not have this problem if you purchased Spanish FSX + Spanish Acceleration. This error can be caused by a problem with the installer, though. See this post: http://www.joyofsetup.com/2007/12/16/flight-simulator-x-service-pack-2-available-and-how-to-work-around-common-problems/
Try that first!
Since I’ve installed FSX Acceleration, I can’t play the instant replay anymore: the flight sim crashes. I uninstalled Acceleration and installed FSX SP2 and the same problem occurs again: impossible to replay a flight… What could be the problem?

help,
i have vista home premium 6600 dc 8800 gtx and when I install fsx sp2 or acceleration neither upgrade identifies my 8800 gtx card .. minimum requirements are …blurb uninstall ok ..
I have a beta nvidia driver set running may this be my problem
It’s a possibility. Are you able to roll-back the driver to the previous version?
whenever i install acceleration all my 3rd party aircraft in virtual cockpitmode are green and i can not see out of them, does anybody else have that problem?
This video on YouTube nicely highlights the ‘flickering’ issues that many have been moaning about with the DX10 implementation in FSX from SP2 or Acceleration. I’ve seen it too, and it’s very very annoying. Can’t believe they didn’t catch this before release!

This is in reply to Frank DeCoster… I’m gonna be honest with you my friend. I am running XP as well. I have a high-end laptop that I bought (came with Vista) and I’m having the same exact problems you are. I get lots of crashes and whatnot from FSX. I myself haven’t found a solution yet but will keep you posted on here. I played FSX in Vista (sadly Vista is as bad as they say and discontinued when it crashed numerous times) and it ran with no issues. It seems to happen in XP. I think Microsoft built FSX for Vista even though the box says it’s compatible with XP.
Hmmmm… interesting reading. I am contemplating buying FSX, busy downloading the SPs and fixes and what-all. But from what I have gathered above it is not such a hot package - maybe the a/c and other features are worthwhile to fiddle with but does it really add value to the experience - I do not know. Maybe you can shed some light on it. Unfortunately .NET is making a massive impact on the system and that’s why I think there is already 2 SPs out. FSXI, do not know. As a Virtual Airline simmer, I’ll rather then stick to FS9 before “going down in flames with Vista and all…”
It’s a tricky one. The camp seems fairly evenly split between sticking with FS9 or moving to FSX.
I have the same problem with the : your videocard do not meet the minimum req…..
I have a 8800 GTS 640 mb .. E6600 dual cpu. and plenty with good ram .. running on Win XP Pro.
This is a mess .. i want to play with my Saitek X45 controller.
PLS try to help me .. if there are someone how knows how to get it work. I have installed SP1 and SP2.
fsx has me very annoyed, crashhappy. everythings fine, as long as you don’t want an outside glimpse of your plane or do something unheard of like clicking the video button in the pulldown menu.
)
system is thoroughly checked, every technical aspect and software setup, no issues, no issues in any other software either and I do run some hard stuff on it doing (3d)graphics and being a gamer (and simmer
I was just having a great flight, my first free flight, not much experience or training, didn’t even finish the lessons yet but was bold enough to raise the realism level, kb control is bad but I found it okay in one of the learjets, did my checks, and maybe amazingly, had a sweeeeeet smooth takeoff, flew to my first wp at 3000 ft (low alt corridor, short route maastricht-amsterdam) then onto my next climb and turn to wp @ 6000ft and of to cruise at 6000 ft. adjusted the engines etc and enjoyed the view. Then I thought, delighted at flying, maybe I might actually be able to put her down @ shiphol. then it dawned it would be cool to have a video if I do succeed. so I nose in the menu click video… ms crash dialog. pity lcd’s aren’t so sturdy as old crt’s. I felt like smacking something, really hard.
Hi,
I naively downloaded SP2 the day before I bought Acceleration and now have to uninstall it in order for Accel. to install properly (so it tells me). I’m not sure how to just uninstall SP2 leaving SP1 and FSX installed with all my add on aircraft i’ve accumulated. Im running Vista; if i go to ‘programs and features’ and uninstall ‘Flight Simulator X SP2 (the only FSX file on the list) will it revert to SP1. i hope so.
