I’m having some problems with it at the moment, as are some others. The main issue for me is that FSX crashes back to the desktop when you switch from the Wing View back to the Cockpit View. I’m sure they’ll get it sorted soon, at which point I can proceed with the review.

I have no add-ons, just a few repaints for the stock planes, and I have the window switching crash. It is sometimes a soft crash (with the option to restart/report problem) and a hard crash (that required a hard reset on the system). Not only does it crash when switching back to cockpit view using “S”, but it emits a scratchy noise burst after swtiching from various views. This happens whether the graphics settings are high or low.

I think I came up with a solution/workaround:

1. DON’T use “S” to switch views.
2. DO use the menu bar to switch views

I am thinking about assigning news keys to the views in the off chance it is a programming glitch in regards to the current key assignment.

Other than that, I like FSX and its new features. I have a one year old Opteron based system with 1.5 GB RAM and an NVidia Geforce 7600GS and this program chews up the frame rates, but I find it an improvement over FS9. If I want to run FS9 at 60fps with everything maxed out I can, but the filters and lighting in FS9 make the game look older.

Good luck,
Jim

Just a comment…

The Project Opensky 757’s I have tried in FSX look amazing. I find the stock airliners and their repaints to be kind of blotchy and pixelated.

Thanks for the tip re Project Opensky - I’ll go take a look.

I have the same problem with the captain sim 757 when you switch from wing view to cockpit view i get a crash-to-desktop and it pisses me off cause i love this aircraft lucky for me it’s the only aircraft that does that in fsx

This is interesting. It seems to suggest that it’s actually an FSX problem that only manifests itself in certain circumstances, which seem to be for any resource intensive aircraft. We need more data, but it’s starting to look that way.

This was one of the must-have add-ons for FS9, I hope that Level-D manage to sort the problems so that it works properly with FSX.

Me too - I’m itching to get this review done :)

I personally think the program itself is broken. I have it crash regularly when flying stock aircraft such as the CRJ and the a321. The only add-ons I regularly use are the Project Opensky 757s and others. I am too cheap to buy any after dumping $70 on FSX, although the Level-D and Captain Sim products look appealing. I like what FSX adds to the details of scenery, i think their new planes are lackluster, and the regular crashing makes me wonder if it is worth it at all. I usually get in the 20-30fps range with most things on high except traffic (which tends to get on my nerves) and that is acceptable performance, although nowhere near the 60fps+ I get on FS9 with everything cranked up.

I’ve just tried using the fsx.cfg supplied on the Level-D forums and it has stopped it crashing when switching from the Wing view back to the Cocpkit view (the replacement settings file reduces detail a great deal), so it DOES appear that it’s a particular setting - or combination of settings - within FSX that’s causing it. I’m trying to isolate it and will report back.
