X-Plane airport and nav-aid data update status
Robin Peel, the author and maintainer of the X-Plane and FlightGear Global Airport and Nav-aid Data Homepage, has made the following statement:
It has been a long time since I published an airport and nav-aid data update for X-Plane.
This is because I have been working on a very major update to the database and software that I use to manage the X-Plane data. The goals are to support the many new airport design features of X-Plane 8.60, to eliminate redundant data I was forced to store and reconcile in order to manage the monthly updates of data from DAFIF (now, sadly, defunct) and to enable me to generate data in multiple formats (eg. X-Plane version 7, X-Plane version 8.10, X-Plane version 8.60) from the same core data. In parallel, Ben Supnik and the X-Plane development team have been working hard on the new World Editor (WED). I have also been very busy (and traveling a great deal) with my ‘day job’.
This database work is now almost complete. Shortly I will begin importing the huge backlog of data that many users have sent me over the past months. I will then publish a new set of data files for testing so that some users can help me verify that all my database design changes have not impacted the quality of the X-Plane data files. And then normal service will resume.
It’s good to see that work is continuing on this service that many simmers find extremely useful.
